Production Commitment & Attendance

Participating in a production is a significant time commitment. Before auditioning, please ensure you can commit to the full schedule, including all rehearsals and mandatory dates.

Regular Rehearsal Schedule

Tuesdays & Thursdays: 7:00–9:00 p.m.
Sundays: 1:00–5:00 p.m.

Note: Schedule is subject to change for Tech Week and Performance dates.

Attendance Requirements

  • Strict Limit: No more than three (3) absences from non-mandatory rehearsals are permitted.
  • Mandatory Dates: If you have a known conflict with any Mandatory or Tech Rehearsals, we ask that you do not audition.
  • Conflict Disclosure: You must submit a complete list of all potential conflicts at the time of your audition.

Frequently Asked Questions

The theatre is committed to creating a welcoming and enriching creative environment and will consider all auditioners, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation or disability. We encourage anyone who is interested to audition. Every auditioner will be considered for any role unless the race, age or gender of a character is integral to the story or has been explicitly specified by the playwright and required by the production contract.

Regular Rehearsals: These are our standard Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday sessions where we learn blocking, music, and choreography. You are permitted up to three (3) absences for these dates, provided they are disclosed at your audition.

Mandatory Rehearsals: These are critical dates where every cast member must be present for the show to function. Because these dates involve complex coordination, no absences are permitted.

  • Tech Week: The final week leading up to opening night. This is when we integrate lighting, sound, sets, costumes, makeup, etc.
  • All Performance Dates: Missing a performance is not permitted.

If you have a known, definite conflict with any mandatory tech rehearsal or performance, we ask that you do not audition for this specific production. The safety and quality of the show depend on the full cast being present during these final stages.

You will be given an audition form to list all potential conflicts (e.g., school concerts, sports games, family trips, work shifts). Please be honest—surprising the production team with new conflicts after you are cast may result in being removed from the production.

Attendance is vital for the momentum of the show. Exceeding three absences may lead to being replaced or having your role re-evaluated, as it becomes difficult for the rest of the cast to rehearse around a missing performer.

Sponsor

Every time the curtain opens, the audience hushes, and the first words are spoken, you know that your support made it happen—not just the production, but the transformation of stories come to life and the journey every young person at CTA makes toward learning who they are and how to express their individuality, making life-long friends along the way and discovering the magic of the performing arts.

By sponsoring Children’s Theatre of Annapolis with a donation, you enable us to continue to provide quality entertainment and community programs that support our mission. In return, you will be prominently promoted as an official sponsor. Participants support CTA and want to spend their money with businesses that do, too.

Join the Board

CTA’s Board of Directors is the highest leadership body of the organization and is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization.

The board follows a hybrid working/governance structure, meaning the volunteers both work on productions and other aspects of the organization, as well as focus on big-picture strategy and policies. All board members are expected to contribute to each production and event, as well as conscientiously participate in governance and strategic planning decisions.

Board members also act as the voice of the organization in the community. They’re expected to understand and actively promote CTA’s mission, as well as the shows, education programs and events.

The board meets every other month on Wednesday evenings, and terms last for two years.

CTA is currently accepting applications to join the Board of Directors. We welcome and encourage applicants of all races, ethnicities, religions, national origin, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation or disability.
